Incorporated under the laws of the State of New Hampshire, the Madbury Historical Society (MHS) held its organizational meeting on October, 17, 1978, with the stated purpose of encouraging an interest in the history of Madbury, including the collection, display, and care of articles of historic interest.

The MHS has recently begun a project to inventory graveyards in Madbury.
